Faculty of Public Health of Sam Ratulangi University was an integral part of Faculty of Medicine under the name: Public Health Study Program (PHSP). Based on an official letter from Indonesian Directorate for Higher Education of Ministry of National Education, PHSP was opened for the first time at 2001. Most of the students were from North Sulawesi province. There were 2 (two) departments at that time: Department of Health Administration and Policy, and Department of Environmental Health. In 2004, PHSP opened Department of Community Nutrition.
After servicing for 8 years, PHSP was upgraded to a Faculty of Public Health based on a Rectorate Decree and an official letter from Indonesia Ministry of National Education. Curerntly, the students are coming from several provinces of the eastern part of Indonesia: Papua, Maluku, Central Sulawesi and other provinces.
